Specifying the right carcass material and finish at design stage is what keeps them looking right in five years' time. Design consultations and quotations are free. There is no fixed price list, every project is priced individually because every project is made to measure. A deposit of 30–50% is taken depending on the size of the work. ### Materials for wet areas Boot rooms are specified differently from the rest of the house. Carcass material is chosen for moisture resistance, bases are kept clear of standing water where possible, and exposed edges are protected with solid timber so a wet boot does not chip a painted arris. Paint systems are selected to be washable, because this is the one area of the house that will be scrubbed. Surfaces that take direct wet, bench tops, boot trays, drip areas, can be specified in materials that shed water rather than absorb it. Hooks, rails and brackets are fixed into timber noggins or solid backing, never into plasterboard alone, because a loaded winter coat is heavier than people expect. ### Methods and airflow Ventilation is designed in: slatted bases and backs, open cubbies and gaps that allow air to move around damp boots and coats. A sealed cupboard full of wet kit is the fastest way to make a boot room unpleasant, so we prioritise airflow over closing everything behind doors. Layout follows the route people actually take from the door. Hooks first, bench second, boot storage beneath, baskets above, so kit is removed in the order it comes off, without walking further into the house.
