We design the layout around a written inventory of what is being stored, then make and fit the whole room from our Stratford-upon-Avon workshop. ### Who it is for It suits households where one bedroom is spare or underused, where a large landing or loft can be enclosed, or where the main bedroom is big enough to give up a wall and gain a walk-in. It also suits couples who want separate zones rather than a shared rail. ### When it is needed Most often during a renovation, a loft conversion, or when children leave home and a bedroom becomes available. If the room is being replastered or rewired, designing the dressing room first means lighting and power land exactly where the joinery needs them. ### Why professional joinery matters Dressing rooms fail when they are drawn to look good rather than to hold a specific wardrobe. We survey the space, model the layout and give you a fixed, itemised quote before work begins. Design consultations and quotations are free. There is no fixed price list, every project is priced individually because every project is made to measure. A deposit of 30–50% is taken depending on the size of the work. ### Materials and components Carcasses are built in stable, high-grade board with solid timber edges where hands and hangers make contact. Drawer boxes are made to hold weight and run smoothly when fully loaded; glass-fronted drawers are used where seeing the contents saves time. Rails are specified by span so they do not deflect under a full load of winter coats. Finishes range from hand-painted to veneered oak, ash and walnut. Interiors can be finished in a contrasting timber or in a wipe-clean surface where practicality matters more than grain. Mirrors, valet rails, tie and belt racks, jewellery inserts and pull-down rails for high storage are all specified at design stage. ### Layout method We start with numbers: metres of long hanging, metres of short hanging, pairs of shoes, folded items by drawer. Those numbers are then fitted into the room's real dimensions, allowing minimum clear walkways so two people can use the room at once where space permits. Sloping ceilings are treated as an asset. Under a shallow pitch we use drawers, shoe racking and short hanging, keeping full-height runs on the tall wall. Islands are only proposed where the clearance around them survives the drawer test: every drawer must open fully with someone standing at it. ### Variations of the service Open walk-in dressing rooms with no doors, for rooms that are already private. The design consultation and quotation are free. How big does a room need to be for a walk-in dressing room?We assess it at survey. The deciding factor is usable clear walkway once the storage depth is taken out, which is why we measure before suggesting a layout. Can you build a dressing room in a loft with sloping ceilings?Yes. Eaves are where much of the storage comes from: drawers, shoe racking and short hanging are designed to the true roof angles.
