We draw it, machine it in our Stratford-upon-Avon workshop and fit and finish it with our own team. ### Who it is for It suits owners of period properties who want new work to sit convincingly alongside original detail, and owners of modern homes who want to add the architectural weight a new-build room lacks. It also suits anyone who has tried off-the-shelf mouldings and found the proportions never quite match the room. ### When it is needed Best planned before decorating, since new joinery changes where sockets, switches and radiators can sit. We often work alongside decorators and electricians on renovation projects, and on listed or period properties where sympathetic detailing is required. ### Why professional joinery matters Architectural joinery lives or dies on its set-out. Rail heights, moulding widths, the relationship to the window head and the skirting, and how a run turns a corner all decide whether the room looks original or applied. That is drawing work, done before any timber is machined. We draw the elevations first so the proportions are right before a single length of timber is machined. Design consultations and quotations are free. There is no fixed price list, every project is priced individually because every project is made to measure. A deposit of 30–50% is taken depending on the size of the work. ### Materials and profiles Painted joinery is generally built in MDF for stability and a flawless painted surface, with solid timber used where an edge is exposed or where a section needs strength. Stained and natural finishes are worked in solid oak, ash and other hardwoods, with profiles machined to match existing detail rather than substituting a modern equivalent. Where a property has original mouldings, we take a profile from the existing work and machine to match. That single step is what allows new architrave, skirting and door detail to sit beside Victorian, Georgian or Regency work without announcing itself. ### Methods: elevations before timber We draw the room in elevation and set the detail from the room's own lines, window heads, door heights, chimney breast width, cornice depth and skirting height. Runs are then balanced across the wall so corners and returns land sensibly, rather than leaving an awkward off-cut at one end. On site, walls are battened and packed to create a true plane before anything is fixed, because plaster is rarely flat enough to fix to directly. Joints are cut and glued rather than relying on filler, and the finish is built up in coats so the surface stays even across a large run. ### Variations of the service Picture rails, dado rails, cornices, door linings and architraves.
